Mastitis Treatment in Bayside

Mastitis Physiotherapy · Hampton East · Bayside

Park at the door. Bring the baby. We will take it from here. Our Hampton East studio sits on the Nepean Hwy with parking on site, and the women’s health physiotherapists here use therapeutic ultrasound to settle blocked ducts and mastitis. These bookings get moved to the front of the queue, because a blocked duct today is a much smaller thing than mastitis tomorrow.

Before anything else

Some symptoms mean the hospital or the GP first

Call 000 or head to an emergency department if you start shaking uncontrollably, your temperature is over 38.5 and rising, red streaks are spreading across the breast, your heart is racing, your skin turns cold and clammy, or you feel faint or muddled.

Book a same-day GP appointment for fever, body aches or that flu-like heaviness, for a patch that is red, hot and sore, or for cracked nipples with a painful red breast. Infected mastitis needs antibiotics promptly, because delay is what turns it into an abscess. Return to the GP if 24 hours of antibiotics has not made a clear difference, or if a hard lump lingers or starts to feel like it holds fluid.

What we do sits beside your GP’s treatment, never ahead of it. When in doubt, phone the studio and we will point you to the right door.

From Hampton to Bentleigh, with a carpark that understands prams.

Bayside families reach us quickly from Hampton, Brighton, Sandringham, Highett, Moorabbin, Bentleigh and Cheltenham. The trip is meant to be the easiest part of the day: pull in off the Nepean Hwy, wheel the pram straight through reception, and get in front of a physiotherapist rather than a waiting room.

Whatever state the morning is in, that is fine here. Plenty of women arrive one-handed, unshowered and close to tears, and none of it registers as unusual to the people at the desk.

This is one part of a broader women’s health physiotherapy service running at Hampton East, so the person helping you through today can also pick up the pelvic floor, bladder and core work later, when there is room in your head for it.

Warmth, ultrasound, and advice that ends the guessing.

Your physiotherapist assesses the area gently, treats it the same visit, and swaps the internet’s contradictory advice for one plan you can actually follow tonight.

Therapeutic ultrasound

A warm treatment head over the sore area. The sound waves ease inflammation and help the blockage clear, the treatment itself is painless, and feeding afterwards is completely fine.

Gentle technique, not force

Light lymphatic work rather than firm massage. An inflamed breast usually reacts badly to pressure, whatever you have been told about working a lump out, so we take the force right off and show you what to do at home instead.

One clear plan

Which feeding positions drain the affected side, what to do tonight, what to keep an eye on, and the point at which a GP appointment needs to happen alongside what we are doing.

Curious about the treatment itself before you book anything? Our mastitis treatment guide goes through it properly.

A blocked duct today is easier than mastitis tomorrow.

The women’s health physiotherapists at Hampton East hold postgraduate pelvic health qualifications and spend their weeks with pregnant and postnatal women. Early feeding problems are familiar territory, and nothing you describe will land as an overshare.

The practical bits

Answered before you have to phone and ask:

  • Priority booking for mastitis, with same-day appointments wherever the diary allows
  • Parking on site, so the pram comes straight in off the Nepean Hwy
  • HICAPS terminal at reception for extras claims
  • Medicare Care Plans accepted
  • Book without a referral from anyone
  • Babies and toddlers in the room are entirely normal

Once the urgent part has passed, the rest of the recovery is under the same roof: your six week check and ongoing postnatal physiotherapy, plus Mums and Bubs classes where the baby comes with you.

Sooner is genuinely better with this one.

Phone 03 9086 3740 and say it is mastitis, or book online in under a minute. Either way, do not wait overnight to see whether it proves itself.

FAQ

Bayside mastitis questions, answered

Where can I get mastitis treatment in Bayside?

At All for One Hampton East on the Nepean Hwy, with parking on site. Women’s health physiotherapists here use therapeutic ultrasound for blocked ducts and mastitis. Phone 03 9086 3740, say it is mastitis, and the desk will find the earliest time available.

Do you treat mastitis near Brighton and Sandringham?

Yes. Hampton East is a short drive from Hampton, Brighton, Sandringham, Highett, Moorabbin, Bentleigh and Cheltenham. Parking sits at the door, which counts for a lot when you are doing this with a newborn.

How soon can a bayside mum be seen?

These appointments are prioritised at Hampton East and we try for the same day wherever the diary allows. Ring rather than email if it is today, and tell whoever answers that it is mastitis.

Can mastitis be treated while I keep breastfeeding?

Yes, and carrying on feeding or expressing is part of getting through it. Nothing in the treatment stops you feeding afterwards, and your physiotherapist will set up positions that help the affected side drain.

When do I need to see a doctor as well?

If you have a fever, feel flu-like, or you have not clearly turned a corner within 24 hours, get a GP appointment that day. Infected mastitis needs antibiotics promptly because delay is what leads to an abscess, and our treatment continues alongside them.

Is it covered by private health?

It is billed as a physiotherapy appointment. HICAPS is on the spot for extras cover, Medicare Care Plans are welcome, and no referral is required to make the booking.
