Is Strava Running the Show?

Is Strava Running the Show?
How Our Obsession with Measuring Everything Might Be Undermining the Joy of Movement

At some point in the last decade, movement stopped being just about moving. It became about logging it.

These days, a run isn’t just a run. It’s a tracked route, a recorded pace, a set of splits, and a handful of “kudos.” We strap devices to our wrists, sync our steps to the cloud, and tally every calorie. We scroll through weekly stats like they’re a report card on our self-worth. And somewhere along the way, something shifted.

We stopped asking, How does this feel?
And started asking, How did I perform?

Now, don’t get us wrong—at All for One, we love a good progress marker. Strength gains? We’ll cheer you on. Hitting new milestones in Clinical Pilates? Incredible. But here’s the problem: when numbers become the only way we evaluate our health, we start measuring our happiness by the data. We forget that wellness isn’t a spreadsheet.

Are We Moving for the Joy or the Graph?

There’s a subtle but important distinction between using tools to support your movement and letting those tools dictate your worth. When every workout needs to be posted, tracked, and validated, we risk turning joyful movement into just another performance.

That Strava run? It doesn’t tell you how good the sun felt on your skin. The wearable won’t measure the mental clarity you gained mid-flow. The app can’t track the smile you shared with your instructor after finally nailing that tough movement in Reformer Pilates.

The All for One Way: Movement Beyond Measurement

At All for One, we see things differently. We believe in a more holistic view of health—where your experience in the moment matters more than your metrics. Our classes are a reminder that movement can be playful, healing, social, empowering, and, yes, sweaty—without needing to be posted.

When you step into our studio, the pressure to perform stays at the door. Whether you’re in a Spin class riding to the rhythm of the music, on the Reformer bed focusing on your alignment, or finding stillness in a Yin Yoga session, you’re invited to reconnect with your body—not your watch.

And that reconnection is powerful. Because it leads to consistency. It creates space for growth. And, most importantly, it brings joy back to the journey.

So, What’s the Takeaway?

We’re not saying throw away the apps. They can be useful. But maybe they shouldn’t always be the main character. Instead of asking, What was my pace? try asking, How do I feel? Instead of focusing on calories burned, notice how you move with more ease, how you sleep more soundly, how you smile more often.

At All for One, we believe you deserve a relationship with movement that fills your cup—not just your feed.

So whether you’re joining us for Clinical Pilates, Prenatal Yoga, Spin, or a strength class, know this: you don’t need to track it for it to matter. You just need to feel it.

Come move with us—mindfully, joyfully, and for you.
