Pregnancy Aches and Pains? A Women’s Health Physio Can Help

Pregnancy is an incredible time of change—and while it can be exciting, it can also come with unexpected discomforts. From aching backs to pelvic pressure, many women are surprised by how much their body can shift, stretch and strain.

If you’re in pain, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to just “put up with it.” At All for One, our Women’s Health Physiotherapists work with pregnant clients every day to reduce pain, improve movement, and support a more comfortable journey to birth.

What Aches and Pains Are Common in Pregnancy?

Pregnancy affects your body in ways that are both amazing and intense. As your baby grows, your posture shifts, your centre of gravity moves, and your ligaments become more mobile. These changes are completely natural, but they can also cause discomfort.

Some of the most common concerns we support include:

Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP)
Pain around the front or back of the pelvis, hips or pubic bone. It can feel sharp, deep, or aching, and often worsens with walking, climbing stairs or turning in bed.

Lower Back Pain
As your posture adapts to your growing belly, extra strain on the lower back can lead to ongoing tension or soreness.

Sciatica or Nerve Pain
A tingling, shooting or burning pain that radiates down the leg—often due to nerve irritation from spinal or pelvic changes.

Upper Back and Rib Pain
As your rib cage expands to make room for baby, tension can build through the upper back and shoulders, especially in the later trimesters.

Wrist and Hand Pain (Carpal Tunnel)
Swelling during pregnancy can lead to nerve compression in the wrists, causing tingling or numbness in the hands—especially overnight.

General Muscle Aches or Fatigue
Hormonal shifts and softening ligaments can leave your muscles working overtime to support your posture and daily movement.

How Can a Women’s Health Physio Help?

Our physiotherapists are trained to assess the body during pregnancy with care, experience and clinical insight. We look at how your muscles, joints and posture are adapting, and provide treatment that’s safe, gentle and evidence-based.

Depending on what’s going on, we may use a combination of hands-on therapy, targeted exercises, taping or supports, posture strategies and advice tailored to your lifestyle.

We also help you stay active in ways that feel good. Whether that’s walking, Pilates or simply getting through the day with less discomfort—we’re here to guide you safely and sustainably.

You Don’t Have to Push Through the Pain

There’s a common belief that pain is just part of pregnancy. And while some changes are inevitable, ongoing discomfort isn’t something you have to accept. With the right support, you can feel stronger, more mobile and more in control of your body throughout this journey.
