# Clinical Pilates

Exercise that knows your history.

You want to get strong again. But somewhere between the injury, the baby, the back that goes when it feels like it, or the years since you last trained, exercise stopped feeling safe. Clinical Pilates is built for exactly this: a program designed by a physiotherapist around your body and your history, trained in classes of no more than four, with a physio who knows every exercise you’re doing and why.

Physio-led. Classes capped at four. Yarraville, Hampton East and Kensington.

## What Clinical Pilates actually is

The name confuses almost everyone, so let’s clear it up. Clinical Pilates is not a Pilates class with a fancier word in front of it. It starts with a one-on-one assessment with a physiotherapist, who takes your full history, watches how you move, and designs an exercise program specific to your body. You then work through that program in small, physio-led classes, at your own pace, with your own exercises, supervised by someone who knows exactly what you’re working on and what you’re working around.

It looks like a Pilates class. It works like physiotherapy.

02## Clinical Pilates vs Reformer Pilates: what’s the difference?

Reformer Pilates is a workout: one sequence, taught to the whole room, and brilliant when your body is ready for it.

Clinical Pilates is individualised: a physiotherapist assesses you one-on-one, builds a program specific to your body and history, and supervises it in classes capped at four.

In short, Reformer trains the room. Clinical trains you.

We run both at All for One, and we’re not precious about which one you’re in. What we care about is that everyone is in the right class for their body and their long-term success. Plenty of our members do both, and plenty start in Clinical and move across to Reformer once their body’s ready. If you’re not sure which is right for you, call us and we can help you get clear.

03## The questions you haven’t said out loud

### “Will I be able to keep up?”

There’s nothing to keep up with. Everyone in the room is doing their own program, at their own pace, chosen for their own body. The person next to you is doing entirely different exercises, so there’s no pace to match and no one to fall behind. Wherever you’re starting from, that’s where your program starts.

### “Isn’t this just expensive Pilates?”

It’s physiotherapy that happens to look like Pilates. The assessment means every exercise in your program was chosen for a reason, the classes are capped at four so nothing you do goes unwatched, and the person running the room is a qualified physiotherapist. It’s also why sessions are claimable on physiotherapy extras with most health funds.

### “Is it safe with my injury?”

Safe for your body is the entire design brief. Your program is built from your assessment, so everything in it was chosen because it suits your injury, your surgery, your stage, and it’s adjusted on the spot if something changes, flares, or simply feels wrong on the day. You’ll never be handed an exercise and left to hope.

### “Will anyone actually be watching me?”

With four people in the room, yes, always. Your physio knows your program, your history, and what this week’s session is trying to achieve. Form gets corrected in the moment, questions get answered when you have them, and progress gets noticed without you having to point it out.

### “Why can’t I just join a class?”

Because without the assessment, it wouldn’t be Clinical Pilates, it would just be Pilates. The assessment is where your program comes from, and it’s what makes every class after it safe, specific and worth your money. It’s the first session of your training, not a hurdle before it.

04## How it works

1

### Your initial assessment

One-on-one with a physiotherapist. Your history, your goals, how you move, and what your body needs to work on and around. Your program is built from this session.

2

### Your program

Specific to you, written down, and updated as you progress. No guesswork, no generic exercises.

3

### Your classes

Capped at four, run by a physiotherapist, at times that fit around work and family across all three studios. You work through your program under expert eyes, and it’s reviewed regularly so it keeps pace with you.

4

### Your proof

[Strength Testing](https://www.allforone.com.au/treatment/strength-testing/)
with our VALD force-testing technology puts numbers on what you’ve built: specific muscles, functional movements and balance, measured against your age and gender norms, and re-tested as you progress.

X## Emma Johnson

## Principal Physiotherapist | APA Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist | Clinical Pilates Instructor

[Book an Advanced Physiotherapy Consultation with Emma →](https://momence.com/appointments/appointment-reservation/37352?boardId=14183&serviceId=210628&venueId=21391&staffId=192095)

You’ve already seen someone about this. Maybe a few people. You’ve done the exercises, followed the advice, had the scans — and you’re still not where you want to be. The pain keeps coming back, or it never fully went away, or nobody’s been able to give you a straight answer about what’s actually going on. If that sounds familiar, Emma is the person you need to see next.

Emma is an APA Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist — a credential held by a small number of physios in Australia, requiring Masters-level postgraduate study and formal competency assessment by the Australian Physiotherapy Association. It’s the highest clinical recognition in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. She’s also completed training with the Watson Headache® Institute for complex headache and migraine presentations. In short: when the standard approach hasn’t worked, Emma has the clinical depth to find what’s been missed.

Emma’s appointments are longer than a standard physiotherapy session, and they’re structured that way deliberately. Complex problems need time — time to piece together the full picture, time to assess thoroughly, and time to explain what she finds so you actually understand what’s driving your pain. You won’t be rushed, and you won’t leave with unanswered questions.

As Principal Physiotherapist at All For One, Emma also sets the clinical standard across the team. The rigour and precision she brings to her own caseload shapes how every physio in the clinic operates.

Emma has advanced training and a strong clinical focus in: complex musculoskeletal injuries, persistent and chronic pain, neck and back pain including disc and nerve presentations, headache and migraine assessment and management, sporting injuries, surgical rehabilitation, inflammatory presentations and osteoarthritis, and difficult tendon pain.

If you’ve been going around in circles with a problem that isn’t resolving — the longer you leave something complex, the more layers it tends to develop. It’s worth seeing someone who can cut through it.

## Allison Schramm

## Physiotherapist | Clinical Pilates Instructor | Assistant Physiotherapy Team Leader

[Book an appointment with Allison →](https://momence.com/appointments/appointment-reservation/37352?boardId=14183&serviceId=35475&venueId=21391&staffId=39843)

Allison’s path to physiotherapy isn’t the usual one. She studied Kinesiology and Exercise Science in the US, trained alongside world-renowned physical therapists in New York City, then moved to Australia and completed her Doctor of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne. That combination of international training and deep clinical experience gives her a perspective most physios simply don’t have.

She has three specialist areas that set her apart. If you’re a runner dealing with an injury, trying to get back to running, or wanting to run stronger — Allison gets it from the inside. She’s a passionate runner herself and has completed advanced education in running injury prevention, rehab, and retraining. If you’re dealing with jaw pain, clicking, locking, or headaches related to your TMJ — Allison has completed advanced training in TMJ assessment and treatment and can get to the bottom of it. And if you’re going through menopause and want tailored exercise to manage symptoms and build strength — she has specific expertise in that too.

Beyond her specialist areas, Allison treats the full range of musculoskeletal conditions — neck and back pain, shoulder injuries, joint stiffness, sports injuries — with the same thoroughness and attention to the bigger picture.

In your first session, Allison will take the time to understand not just the sore spot but how you move, how you live, and what’s getting in the way. She’ll explain what she finds in plain language and build a plan with you that fits into your actual week — not a handout you’ll forget about by Thursday.

Allison commonly helps with: running injuries and performance, jaw pain and TMJ dysfunction, neck and back pain, joint pain and stiffness, sports injuries and rehabilitation, menopause-related strength and symptom management, and Clinical Pilates.

If you’ve been pushing through something hoping it’ll settle down on its own — it’s worth getting it looked at properly. These things almost always respond better the earlier you get onto them.

There are some things you don’t bring up at brunch. Leaking when you laugh. A heaviness that doesn’t feel right. Pain during intimacy you’ve never told anyone about. Pelvic pain you’ve been told is “just part of having a baby.” These are the things Emily helps with every single day — and nothing you say will surprise her.

Emily specialises in Women’s Health and Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy. She’s completed postgraduate studies in the field and trained alongside some of Australia’s leading pelvic health experts. Before women’s health, she cut her teeth in elite sport — working in the medical department at Carlton Football Club (AFL) — and she brings that same clinical precision to every appointment.

A lot of women wait months — sometimes years — before seeing someone about pelvic health, because they’re embarrassed, or because they’ve been told it’s normal. It’s not something you have to just live with. And in Emily’s room, nothing is awkward. You can ask the questions you’ve been sitting on, and they’ll be taken seriously.

In your first appointment, Emily will listen properly, explain what’s going on in plain English, and work with you on a plan that makes sense for your body and your stage of life. Whether that’s preparing for birth, recovering from a C-section, rebuilding your pelvic floor, returning to running, or treating pain that’s been holding you back — the focus is always on getting you to where you want to be.

Emily commonly helps with: pelvic floor dysfunction (incontinence, prolapse, pelvic pain), prenatal and postnatal care, birth preparation, C-section recovery and abdominal rehabilitation, return-to-exercise assessments, pain during intimacy, general neck and back pain, and Clinical Pilates.

If you’ve been putting up with something because you weren’t sure it was “bad enough” to see someone about — it is. The earlier you address it, the simpler it usually is to treat.

I’ve worked in postnatal wards at St John of God and The Alfred. I’ve trained alongside some of Australia’s leading pelvic health physiotherapists. And I’ve supported hundreds of women and men through the most vulnerable, confusing, and physically demanding stages of their lives. Whatever you’re going through — I’ve very likely seen it before, and I take all of it seriously.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from Curtin University and a Postgraduate Certificate in Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy from the University of Melbourne. My focus is helping women with pelvic health conditions, pregnancy and postnatal care, and the kind of symptoms that are common but rarely talked about — leaking, heaviness, pelvic pain, pain during intimacy, or a core that doesn’t feel like it’s come back together after birth.

I know these things can feel awkward to bring up. A lot of the women I see waited a long time before booking — because they were embarrassed, or because someone told them it was “normal.” It’s not something you just have to live with. And you won’t feel awkward about it with me.

In your first appointment, I’ll take the time to understand everything — your symptoms, your history, and what you actually want to get back to. I’ll explain what’s going on clearly, answer every question, and we’ll build a plan together. No jargon, no rushing, no generic handouts.

I commonly help with: pregnancy and postnatal care (pelvic girdle pain, abdominal separation, return to exercise, pelvic floor preparation and recovery), pelvic floor dysfunction (incontinence, prolapse, urgency, pelvic pain, pain during intimacy), core and abdominal rehabilitation, pessary fittings for prolapse management, general musculoskeletal pain (back, neck, joints), Men’s Pelvic Health and Clinical Pilates.

If you’ve been putting up with something and you’re not sure if it warrants seeing someone — it does. These things almost always respond better the earlier you get onto them.

## Gemma Allan

## Physiotherapist | Clinical Pilates Instructor

[Book an appointment with Gemma →](https://momence.com/appointments/appointment-reservation/37352?boardId=14183&serviceId=35736&venueId=21391&staffId=39844)

Gemma is a mum of three young kids, a former competitive gymnast and gymnastics coach, and — since having her third baby — a half-marathon runner. She knows what it’s like to rebuild your body after birth. Not from a textbook. From doing it herself, three times over, while juggling small children and everything that comes with it.

That personal experience shapes how she works in the clinic. Whether you’re dealing with pelvic pain during pregnancy, a core that doesn’t feel like it’s come back together after birth, back pain that flared up and never left, or you’re desperate to get back to exercise but not sure where to start — Gemma has been there, and she can guide you through it.

Gemma holds a Master of Physiotherapy and has worked across a range of clinical settings since 2013. Her background in gymnastics gives her a deep understanding of movement quality, strength, and body confidence — which she brings to everything from gentle post-natal rehab to helping mums return to running, lifting, or higher-intensity exercise.

In your first session, Gemma will meet you where you’re at — physically, emotionally, and practically. She’ll assess what’s going on, explain it clearly, and build a plan that’s realistic for your life right now. Whether that’s early post-natal movement or training for a running goal, the focus is always on what matters to you.

Gemma commonly helps with: pregnancy-related back and pelvic pain, postnatal recovery and return to exercise, abdominal separation (DRAM), pelvic floor rehabilitation, running after baby, general neck and back pain, knee and hip pain, and Clinical Pilates.

If you’ve been waiting for things to “just get better on their own” since having your baby — they usually don’t without the right guidance. You don’t have to figure it out alone.

## Tori Fisher

## Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist | Women's Health Physiotherapist | Clinical Pilates Instructor

[Book an appointment with Tori →](https://momence.com/appointments/appointment-reservation/37352?boardId=14785)

Hampton East Monday – Friday

Something’s not right and it’s not getting better on its own. A neck that’s been stiff for weeks, a back that flares every time you think it’s settled, a shoulder that’s stopping you training, or something harder to say out loud. Whatever it is, bring it to Tori. Getting to the bottom of it is the job, and she’s been doing it for over ten years.

“Bodies aren’t fragile. Almost everyone I see can do more than they think they can. My job is to prove it to them, safely.”

Tori trained at Monash, graduating with Honours, and has spent a decade across private practice in Australia and the UK: sporting injuries, post-surgical rehab, and the persistent pain that’s already outlasted a few other treatments. She has advanced training in Clinical Pilates, so the plan you leave with connects straight into the studio down the hall.

She also has a special interest in women’s health physiotherapy: pregnancy and postnatal recovery, pelvic health, and the strength and hormonal changes of perimenopause and menopause. If you’re not sure whether what you’re experiencing is normal, that question alone is worth the appointment. These run a full hour, unhurried, in a private room, and you don’t need a referral.

Your first appointment starts with the whole story: what happened, what it’s getting in the way of, and what you want back. Then a proper assessment, an explanation in plain English, and treatment started before you leave, with a written plan so you always know where this is going. You’ll walk out knowing what it is, what we’re doing about it, and when you’ll feel the difference.

Tori commonly helps with: neck and back pain, shoulder injuries, knee and hip pain, post-surgical rehab, sports injuries, headaches and jaw pain, pregnancy-related pain, pelvic floor conditions, and perimenopause and menopause support.

Most of these things respond better the earlier you get onto them. [Book with Tori →] HICAPS on the spot, no referral needed.

## Phoebe Cunningham

## Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist | Women's Health Physiotherapist | Clinical Pilates Instructor

[Book an appointment with Phoebe →](https://momence.com/appointments/appointment-reservation/37352?boardId=14183)

Most physios focus on either general musculoskeletal pain or women’s health. Phoebe does both — which means she can treat your sore back and your pelvic floor in the same appointment, and see how one might be connected to the other. It’s a fuller picture, and it often makes a real difference to how quickly things improve.

On the musculoskeletal side, Phoebe treats neck and back pain, shoulder and knee injuries, headaches, and persistent muscle tension. She’s trained in dry needling for stubborn trigger points and pain that isn’t responding to other approaches. On the women’s health side, she works with pelvic floor conditions (incontinence, prolapse, pelvic pain, constipation), pregnancy and post-natal care, and integrates Clinical Pilates into rehab for strength and recovery.

Phoebe is especially passionate about pelvic floor education — helping people understand and connect with a part of their body that’s rarely talked about but affects everything from continence to core strength to confidence. If you’re not sure whether your symptoms are “normal” or worth seeing someone about — Phoebe’s the person to ask.

In your first appointment, she’ll take the time to understand what’s going on — listen properly, explain things clearly, and build a plan with you that’s specific to your body and your goals. Whether that’s getting through pregnancy more comfortably, sorting out a pelvic floor issue, or just getting rid of the back pain that’s been ruining your mornings — the focus is always on what matters to you.

Phoebe commonly helps with: neck and back pain, shoulder and knee injuries, pelvic floor dysfunction (incontinence, prolapse, pelvic pain), pre- and post-natal physiotherapy, dry needling, and Clinical Pilates.

If something’s been bothering you and you haven’t gotten around to doing anything about it — it’s usually easier to sort out than you think, especially when you catch it early.

## Abigail Oh

## Physiotherapist | Clinical Pilates Instructor

You’ve probably tried a few things already. Rested it, stretched it, maybe seen someone who had a quick look and sent you off with a sheet of exercises, and here you still are. That’s usually the point where people find Abi, and it’s exactly where she’s at her best.

Abi treats the full range of musculoskeletal conditions — the backs that keep flaring up, the necks that won’t loosen, the shoulders and hips and knees that have quietly started shrinking what you’re willing to do. She also has a soft spot for the things that tend to get dismissed: stubborn headaches, and jaw pain that’s been quietly making it harder to eat, sleep, or concentrate. She completed her Doctor of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne, and what really sets her apart is her patience, she’d rather understand the whole picture than treat where it hurts and hope.

In your first appointment, she’ll take the time to get to know not just the sore spot but you — how you move, what you’re trying to get back to, and what’s been getting in the way. She’ll explain what she finds in plain language, answer the questions you’ve been carrying around, and build a plan with you that actually fits your week. Clinical Pilates is part of how she works too, helping you build real strength and confidence so the progress you make actually lasts.

Abi commonly helps with: neck and back pain, shoulder, hip and knee pain, headaches, jaw pain and TMJ dysfunction, sports and overuse injuries, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, and clinical Pilates.

If you’ve been pushing through something hoping it’ll settle on its own, it’s worth getting it looked at properly. These things almost always respond better the earlier you get onto them — and there’s no need to keep just putting up with it.

## Riley Lock

## Physiotherapist | Clinical Pilates Instructor

There’s a common experience with pain that goes something like this: it starts small, you work around it, it doesn’t quite go away, you push through it, then one day it stops you doing something you’d rather be doing. That’s usually when people book in with Riley.

Riley completed his Doctor of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne, and treats the full range of musculoskeletal conditions, from the low back that flares up when you sit too long, to the shoulder that never fully recovered from a thing years ago, to the knee, hip, calf or ankle that’s making walking, working, training or sleeping harder than it needs to be. He’s also certified in Clinical Pilates (APPI Equipment and Matwork), so when strength and stability are part of the recovery, they get built into the same plan.

Riley’s approach is to work out what’s actually driving the pain, not just where it shows up. He uses functional movement assessments to see how you load and unload, watches how the body moves under real conditions, and then explains what he finds in plain language. You’ll leave with a plan you can actually work with, not a stretch sheet and a shrug. Manual therapy where it helps, rehab that fits your week, and Clinical Pilates if it belongs in the picture.

Riley also happens to be a serious athlete himself, a marathon and ultra runner, Ironman finisher, and 2024 Nike Melbourne Marathon pacer. Which means he understands the difference between a niggle to train through and a signal to back off, and he won’t tell you to just stop moving if you’ve got a life you’d like to keep living.

Riley commonly helps with: neck and back pain, shoulder, hip and knee pain, sports and overuse injuries, running-related injuries, calf and Achilles pain, chronic pain, postural pain from desk work, return-to-activity rehab, biomechanical assessment and gait analysis, and Clinical Pilates.

If you’ve been putting up with it, working around it, or pushing through and hoping it’ll settle, it’s usually more treatable than you think when someone actually looks at what’s driving it.

## Stephanie Chung

## Physiotherapist | Clinical Pilates Instructor

[Book an appointment with Steph→](https://momence.com/appointments/appointment-reservation/37352?boardId=14183&serviceId=35475&venueId=21391)

Steph has packed a lot into nearly ten years of practice. Alongside her work in private practice here in Melbourne, she spent a season as the only physiotherapist at a busy ski resort in Japan, where the injuries came thick and fast and there was no one else to hand them to. That kind of experience makes a clinician calm, quick to work out what matters, and hard to surprise.

She treats the full range of musculoskeletal and sports injuries, from acute problems to the stubborn, long-running ones that other treatments haven’t touched. She completed her Doctor of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne, and she’s skilled across clinical Pilates, dry needling, and manual therapy, with a particular interest in how mobility and movement fit into getting you back to full strength.

In a session with Steph, you’ll get someone who wants the whole story, not just the sore spot. She’ll get a sense of how you move and what you’re trying to get back to, explain what she finds in language that makes sense, and put together a plan you can fit into a normal week. Clinical Pilates often becomes part of that, because getting out of pain and staying out of it are two different things.

Steph commonly helps with: neck and back pain, shoulder, hip and knee injuries, sports injuries and rehab, mobility and movement for performance, persistent pain, and clinical Pilates.

If something’s been bothering you for a while, it’s usually worth getting it seen. These things tend to be simpler to sort the earlier you get onto them.

If something’s been niggling for a while and you’ve been hoping it’ll fix itself, it’s usually worth getting it seen. The earlier you get onto these things, the easier they tend to be to sort out.

09## Frequently asked questions

### What's the difference between Clinical Pilates and Reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates is one sequence taught to the whole class. Clinical Pilates is an individual program designed by a physiotherapist from a one-on-one assessment, trained in classes capped at four. Reformer trains the room; Clinical trains you.

### Do I need to be fit, or to have done Pilates before?

No. Your program starts wherever your body is, and everyone in the room is doing their own exercises at their own pace. There's no routine to learn and no one to keep up with.

### Can I claim Clinical Pilates on private health insurance?

Our sessions run as physio-led group sessions, which most health funds cover under physiotherapy extras. Check your level of cover, and if you're covered we process your claim on the spot with HICAPS, so you only pay the gap.

### Do I need a referral?

No. Book the initial assessment directly and we'll take it from there.

### What happens in the initial assessment?

A one-on-one session with a physiotherapist: your history, your goals, and a movement assessment. Your individual program is designed from what they find, and you'll understand the reason behind every exercise in it.

### Is Clinical Pilates safe during pregnancy or after having a baby?

It's one of the most common reasons people come to us. Your program is designed around your stage of pregnancy or recovery by a physiotherapist, and our team includes Women's Health Physiotherapists who do this every day.

### How often should I come?

That depends on your program and your goals. Your physio will recommend a rhythm in your assessment and make a plan for you.

### Where can I do Clinical Pilates in Melbourne?

All for One runs physio-led Clinical Pilates at three Melbourne studios: Yarraville in the inner west, Hampton East in the bayside south east, and Kensington in the inner north west.
